NEW YORK – A 7-Eleven store clerk in Midtown, Manhattan, was assaulted after trying to stop a suspect from stealing, New York City Police said Sunday.
The attack, which is being investigated as a possible hate crime, occurred inside the store located in 8th Avenue before 6:00 am on Saturday.
Authorities say the suspect struck the 27-year-old employee in the face and yelled insults at the Asian community when he tried to stop the robbery.
The employee suffered injuries but refused medical attention, police said.
The case remains under investigation.
