7 Days of Russian Invasion, 2,000 Ukrainian Civilians Killed

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Ukraine reported that more than 2,000 civilians died in the strikes Russia for seven days since the President Vladimir Putin ordered the invasion on Thursday last week.

“More than 2,000 Ukrainians died, not including our troops,” the Ukrainian Emergency Services said in a statement CNN.

The agency said that many civilian casualties were caused by Russian attacks regardless of location. Apart from military installations, various civilian sites were also targeted.

As reported Reutersthe Russian attacks also targeted transportation facilities, hospitals, residential areas, to kindergartens in various parts of Ukraine.

“Children, women and defense forces lose their lives every hour,” wrote the Ukrainian Emergency Service.

The data on civilian casualties is far from the information compiled by the United Nations (UN). According to UN data, at least 136 civilians have died as a result of Russian strikes in Ukraine.

This war itself broke out after President Vladimir Putin ordered a military operation in Donbas, a region in eastern Ukraine controlled by pro-Russian separatists, on Thursday last week.

Shortly after, Russian troops pushed into Ukraine through the north, south, and east. Ukraine then retaliated in the name of self-defense. War broke out.

Russia continues to bombard a number of cities in Ukraine, including the capital, Kiev. While claiming to have only attacked military installations, Russian forces have also targeted civilian facilities.

Ukraine and Russia had held talks on Monday (28/2), but failed to reach an agreement. They are then scheduled to hold a second negotiation today, Wednesday (2/3).
