Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Active in sexual put someone at risk sexually transmitted disease (PMS). Recognize the most common signs of PMS.
STDs can affect anyone who is sexually active. The practice of safe sex with condoms does not guarantee 100 percent freedom from infection. Without the symptoms that you and your partner are aware of, transmission can occur.
“Not all cases of STDs show symptoms,” gynecologist Christine Greves quoted him as saying Health.
Sometimes, the symptoms that arise are often considered other diseases. Therefore, you are advised to check some of the following common symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases, citing various sources.
1. A burning sensation when urinating
Infectious disease expert, Michael Angarone, said a burning sensation when urinating is the most common symptom of STDs. The pain comes from inflammation in the urinary tract.
Angarone explained that bacteria can stick to the mucous membrane of the urethra, causing inflammation.
“You may feel a burning sensation when you urinate and go to the toilet a lot,” he added.
Quoting Healthline, a burning sensation when urinating is usually a symptom of herpes, chlamydia, and trichomoniasis.
2. Unusual whiteness
The fluid that comes out of the vagina or commonly called vaginal discharge is fairly normal. However, there are also unusual vaginal discharge that should be watched out for as a symptom of STDs such as trichomoniasis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea.
Irritation or inflammation due to bacteria in the reproductive tract will cause strange vaginal discharge such as different colors as usual and smells bad.
3. Vaginal bleeding
Apart from menstruation, bleeding is very likely to occur in the vagina. If you have had sex that was not too rough but the bleeding is still there, STDs could be the cause.
“High-risk HPV can affect the cervix which can cause bleeding after sex,” says Greves.
4. Itching or burning sensation in the vagina
Itching mixed with burning in the vagina usually occurs due to a yeast infection. However, STDs like gonorrhea and chlamydia can also carry similar symptoms.
According to Greves, PMS makes the tissue in the vagina more sensitive. “It becomes inflamed and normal mechanisms can be disrupted,” he added.

5. Pain during sex
Pain does bring different sensations during sex. However, if this pain is not something you want, then suspicion could point to PMS symptoms.
According to Greves, STDs can cause inflammation in the vagina, causing pain.
Quoting Medical News Today, vaginal pain after sex can be a sign of herpes, chlamydia, and gonorrhea.
6. Lumps on the genitals
Lumps can signal several types of STDs such as herpes, HPV, syphilis, and molluscum contagiosum (a viral disorder that causes lumps filled with a milky fluid).
If a lump appears, immediately check with the doctor even though the lump has disappeared. Greves says conditions like herpes have symptoms that come and go because the virus is still in the body.
7. Pain in the pelvic area
Pain around the pelvis or pelvis cannot be taken for granted. Usually, chlamydia and gonorrhea can cause symptoms like this.
“Gonorrhea or chlamydia can cause pelvic pain because it not only affects the vagina, but spreads to the uterus and fallopian tubes,” says Greves.
