The causes of sudden cardiac arrest must be known to the public and must not be underestimated. The reason is that this condition is thought to have resulted in 154 victims who died in the tragedy of a Halloween night party in the Itaewon region of South Korea.
This tragedy began when residents began flocking to the Itaewon area wearing a variety of horror costumes. They were very excited because this was the first Halloween celebration after being blocked by the COVID-19 pandemic for three years.
A number of people who were already at the top of the road fell, hitting the visitors below. Because it causes panic until visitors step on each other. Security guards also had to fight to get a number of people out of the crowd because conditions were very busy.
From this situation hundreds of people were already lying on the street due to cardiac arrest, some visitors and officers immediately performed CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) as first aid.
Causes of cardiac arrest
Cardiac arrest, also known as sudden cardiac arrest, is when the heart suddenly stops beating. Lack of blood flow to the brain and other organs can cause a person to lose consciousness, be disabled, or die if not treated immediately.
This condition is different from a heart attack or heart attack, it is caused by a blockage in the coronary blood vessels that are supposed to feed the heart muscle. People who have had a heart attack can experience cardiac arrest later. During cardiac arrest, not necessarily caused by a heart attack.

- Enlargement of the heart (cardiomyopathy). The heart muscle widens or thickens, causing abnormal heart contractions.
- Coronary artery dysfunction. This type of heart disease occurs when the coronary arteries are narrowed and thickened by blockage of plaque, which restricts blood flow to the heart. Left untreated, coronary artery disease can lead to heart failure or arrhythmias, both of which can lead to cardiac arrest.
Other causes of cardiac arrest can include:
- Loss of blood
- Valvular heart disease
- Lack of oxygen
- High levels of potassium and magnesium (can cause arrhythmias)
