7 Body Parts That Often Show Signs of Skin Cancer

Skin cancer occurs when skin cells experience abnormal growth.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — As with other cancers, the earlier Skin cancer found, the greater the chance of survival for the patient. Appearance mole or unusual black spots on seven parts of the body can be an early sign of possible skin cancer.

Skin cancer occurs when skin cells grow abnormally and uncontrollably. According to the Mayo Clinic, most skin cancers appear in areas of the skin that are exposed to the sun.

In general, skin cancer consists of three types. The three types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Of these three types, melanoma is known as the most serious and deadly type of skin cancer, and can appear in various areas of the body.

“Even in areas that are not exposed to the sun. (Melanoma) can start to appear as moles or dark patches on the skin,” explains Dr Kumkum Misra from Monteceuticals, as reported by //ExpressTuesday (5/7/2022).

According to Dr Misra, moles are related melanoma often appear in seven areas of the body:

1. Between the fingers or toes

2. On the palms of the hands and feet

3. In the genitals and the surrounding area

4. On the scalp

5. At the nail bed (nail beds) on the fingers or toes

6. In the eyes

7. In the mouth, digestive tract, and urinary tract known as mucosal melanoma.

According to Harvard Health, melanoma of the nails often appears on the big hand or toe. Usually, signs of melanoma are often seen on the side of the hand or foot that is dominantly used.

One way to prevent melanoma and other types of cancer is to protect the skin from direct sunlight. This protection can be done by applying sunscreen every day, not only when the sun looks hot.

Lamp or mattress tanning which serves to make the skin look darker should also be avoided. The reason, these two machines work by emitting ultraviolet light.
