7 Best Foods When Stressed, Apart from Chocolate

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Hopes to go through the day in a relaxed manner must be dashed when you receive an email containing a complaint from a client, yet the boss suddenly asks for a meeting even though you have to take care of other things.

Stress? Definitely. You certainly can’t run away to simply ‘get out’ from reality. The only thing that can be done is to find food that can cause a sense of comfort.

However, nutritionist Melina Jampolis warned, not to look for foods that can actually damage health. Because people tend to look for foods high in sugar, salt and high calories.

“Focus on a diet full of healthy fats, particularly omega 3 fatty acids, coupled with protein, B vitamins and magnesium-rich foods to relieve chronic stress,” Jampolis said. Livestrong.

Perhaps you are thinking of a cup of hot chocolate. But stress-relief foods aren’t limited to chocolate.

Here are seven foods when stress comes.

Mashed potatoes, aka mashed potatoes, are always right to eat with steak or other protein sources. But eating mash potato with a little pepper is enough to relieve stress.

According to reports Everyday HealthResearch has found that carbohydrates can temporarily increase serotonin levels. Serotonin hormone functions to improve mood and reduce stress.

But you should look for foods with complex carbohydrates such as potatoes or foods from grains.

Instead of simple carbohydrates such as white rice, white bread, complex carbohydrates are able to provide a feeling of fullness longer and do not make blood sugar levels skyrocket.

2. Avocado

Usually avocado is used as a complement to toast. But when stressed, it’s okay to eat avocado or processed avocados such as juice or guacamole.

Avocados are rich in healthy fats that are useful for reducing stress, anxiety, improving concentration and mood. In addition, avocados contain fiber as well as other essential nutrients.

A survey published in the Nutrition Journal (2013) found that avocados are associated with a good quality diet and a reduced risk of metabolic syndrome.

3. Nuts

Forget chips or seblak as a snack when stressed. It is highly recommended to consume nuts including cashews, almonds, soybeans or edamame. Why?

These foods are the best sources of magnesium which can relieve stress.

In addition to nuts, you can get magnesium from pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, spinach, or black beans.

4. Oranges

A 2015 study published in the Pakistan Journal of Biological Science reported that vitamin C could reduce stress levels in participants who took 500 mg of vitamin C supplements per day.

Another study found that vitamin C was more effective at reducing anxiety levels than other groups of vitamins.

You don’t have to take a daily vitamin C supplement. Vitamin C can be obtained from fruits such as oranges, strawberries, or other citrus fruits. Not only vitamin C, you can also get fiber intake.
