At first that didn’t look good for EHC Red Bull Munich – against newcomer Bietigheim Steelers, the CHL semi-finalist was already 0-2 behind, but then won by 7-3 on Tuesday match day of the German Ice Hockey League – all seven Munich goals fell in the final section.
With fewer goals, ERC Ingolstadt also achieved a success that was remarkable in view of the opponent’s series. The Düsseldorfer EG had previously won six times in a row, but now had to admit defeat. The ERC won 3-1 – mainly thanks to a strong first third. It was spectacular in the duel between the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven and the Augsburg Panthers. The home side were already 4: 1 ahead, before the Swabians equalized at 4: 4 and 5: 5. In the end Bremerhaven went 6-5 as the winner from the ice. The winning goal fell just 50 seconds before the end of regular time.
The Nürnberg Ice Tigers made it clear in their 6-1 home win against the Kölner Haie. The Grizzlys Wolfsburg defeated the leaders Eisbären Berlin 3-2 after a penalty shootout. The game between the Straubing Tigers and the Krefeld Penguins also went into the shooting competition. Here the KEV had the lead at 4: 3.
