The 6th Bremen Film Festival will take place from April 14th to 18th – due to corona for viewers in digital format. Original plans of the organizers to enable at least a few events with an audience on site had to be discarded due to the pandemic.
The program nevertheless remains extensive. The festival organizers promise a total of more than 250 films, including 29 world and 74 German premieres, all of which can be streamed online during the film festival. The festival kicks off on Wednesday, April 14th, with the short film competition “Klappe!” The participants – professionals as well as laypeople – had a total of 48 hours to submit a maximum three-minute contribution on the topic of “Bloom Time”. From April 11th it can be voted online who should receive the two audience prizes of 500 and 1000 euros. In addition, a jury prize endowed with 1000 euros and an honorable mention with 500 euros in prize money will be awarded. The moderators Franziska Kirchner and Fabian Nolte will present the teams and their films in a live stream on Wednesday from 6 p.m., after which the prizes will be awarded.
In addition to the short film competition, awards are given in several categories: humor / satire, innovation, music and Bremen. In the international humor / satire competition, endowed with 3500 euros, over 70 feature-length and short films from a total of 26 countries compete against each other. In the area of innovation, the Bremische Landesmedienanstalt awards 1000 euros each for particularly innovative narrative and visual implementations. The Bremen category includes films that were either made with Bremen’s participation or shot in the city.
