69 Percent of Respondents Are Doubtful about Receiving Sinovac Vaccine

Jakarta, IDN Times – Report Covid-19 conducted a survey regarding public understanding and acceptance of the corona virus vaccine. The survey is also to see people’s understanding and acceptance of the COVID-19 drug. As a result, people are still hesitant to accept the Biofarma-Sinovac vaccine.

“Only 31 percent of respondents said they were willing to receive the Biofarma-Sinovac vaccine which is currently undergoing phase three clinical trials, and as many as 69 percent of respondents expressed doubt that they were not willing,” said Covid-19 expert collaborator Dicky Pelupessy, in the statement quoted. IDN Times, Friday (16/10/2020).

However, the response to the Red and White vaccine being made by LBM Eijkman-Biofarma is slightly better. As many as 44 percent of respondents were willing and 56 percent expressed doubt that they were not even willing to accept.

1. The survey involved 2,109 respondents

This research was conducted by the Faculty of Psychology, University of Indonesia, Master of Disaster Management at UPN Veteran Yogyakarta, and the Higher Education Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction (FPT PRB).

This survey is a study cross-sectional and using techniques convenience sampling to recruit respondents with criteria aged 18 years and over, and this was done online. There were more than 2,500 respondents who filled out the survey with a final total of 2,109 respondents, after data cleaning was carried out.

This survey also looked at people’s acceptance and understanding of the COVID-19 drug. As a result, only 15 percent of respondents stated that the medicine made by Universitas Airlangga (Unair) could cure COVID-19.

59 percent of respondents felt that the drug was not necessarily effective, and 36 percent of respondents had doubts about the effectiveness of the drug made by Unair, and only 5 percent stated that it was effective.

“Then, as many as 70 percent of respondents expressed doubt that they are not willing to take Unair drugs if they are infected with COVID-19,” said Dicky.

Survey respondents also showed an understanding that was considered good about the COVID-19 pandemic, both about what COVID-19, for example, such as fever and loss of smell as early symptoms and threats to health.

The majority of respondents felt afraid and believed that the COVID-19 pandemic had bad effects on health. As many as 77.9 percent trusted sources of information related to COVID-19 from health experts to epidemiologists.

Meanwhile, the percentage of respondents who knew that the drug made by Unair was 54.34 percent, the Biofarma-Sinovac vaccine was 67.61 percent, and the Red and White vaccine from the Eijkman-Biofarma Institute was 47.8 percent.
