On Saturday evening, more than 80 Christian communities opened their doors for the Night of the Churches in Hamburg. According to the organizers, a total of around 67,000 visitors attended the more than 250 events.

This year’s motto was: “What do you believe?” There was music, literature and comedy. Many visitors also came to events about faith and science on the DESY campus. “Hamburg experienced a wonderful night of churches! How wonderful that so many people accepted the invitation and visited Hamburg’s churches as special places. The program was great and incredibly diverse,” said head pastor and provost Martin Vetter.

NDR stage in Mönckebergstraße

The largest ecumenical church event in northern Germany took place for the 21st time this year. It was opened on the NDR stage in Mönckebergstrasse. Bishop Kirsten Fehrs, Hamburg’s school senator Ksenija Bekeris (SPD) and the Catholic Archbishop Stefan Heße were among those present. The evening was moderated by NDR 90.3 culture director Daniel Kaiser. There was live music until late in the evening.
