A 67-year-old woman died last night after being hit by a crane while crossing a street in Lower Manhattan (NYC).
The victim was crossing East 10th St. en Alphabet City Monday when the 59-year-old driver turned left onto Avenue C, the NYPD said.
The platform crane hit her when I was at the pedestrian crossing and died at the scene. While police continued to investigate, his name was not immediately released.

“Her purchases were everywhere next to her body,” he told Daily News a witness who did not want to be identified. “She must have been on the way home after shopping. It’s sad.”
The tow truck driver remained at the scene and it was unclear whether he could see the woman crossing the street before hitting her, police sources said. No charges have been announced against him so far.

In December Governor Kathy Hochul signed the “Angelica Law”, intended to keep drivers with prior suspensions off the road by felony charging repeat offenders who operate vehicles after committing five or more traffic violations that resulted in suspensions or revocations.
