A 66-year-old man from the city of Austin, Texas, was reported missing when he did not return from a trip last week.
James Bernard Hendricks was to scatter the ashes of the family’s recently deceased father in Arches National Park, in the state of Utah.
Headache over
That’s what the American local newspaper writes My San Antonio.
Investigated
Hendrick drove out into the national park on August 1. The same day he was reported missing and park staff were sent out to look for him.
It was his sister, Ruth Hendricks Brough, who told the local newspaper the reason why the 66-year-old drove into the national park in the first place.
The National Park writes in one press release that they found his car at a car park inside the national park.
Shortly afterwards, they are said to have found the man lifeless. Local police investigated the death in collaboration with the national park’s own investigators.
Here the trip ended
– They think he died from a combination of the heat, the altitude and dehydration. When park staff found him, his water bottle was empty, My San Antionio’s sister says.
His last journey
Hendricks Brough describes the brother as someone who “loved the wonders and mysteries of nature and the universe”. According to her, he had a close relationship with nature.
At the time of his death, James Bernard Hendricks is said to have been on an extended journey to his father’s hometown. Along the way, he took several nature photos, while also spreading his father’s ashes.
The destination for the trip was the city of Reno in Nevada
– Our father lived there for a large part of his life. James called the trip “his last journey with our father,” says Henricks Brough.
Found dead
The sister describes her brother’s death as a big shock. Still, she tries to see the bright side of things, as he always did.
– He was a person who spread joy to everything and everyone he met. To him, the whole universe was alive – from people to fossils and stardust. He greatly appreciated everything.
