66-year-old man died in a serious crash on exit E40: victim was not wearing a seat belt and was driving twice as fast as allowed | Kraainem

KraainemA fatal traffic accident happened on the exit of the E40 in Kraainem on Tuesday afternoon. A 66-year-old man from Anderlecht was thrown from his car and died of his injuries. They also searched for another passenger – a child – but that child was ultimately not in the car.

The accident happened shortly after noon on Tuesday at the exit of the E40 in Kraainem, in the bend towards the Woluwedal. “A 66-year-old man from Anderlecht lost control of his steering wheel and missed the bend as a result,” said Carol Vercarre, spokesperson for the Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor’s office. “According to the traffic expert, the driver was not wearing a seat belt and he was driving 100 kilometers per hour where a maximum of 50 kilometers per hour is allowed. He was thrown from the vehicle and died on the spot. The vehicle is still being examined for any technical problems.”

Child on board?

The emergency services initially took into account that a passenger – a child – was in the vehicle. Therefore, a sniffer dog and the helicopter of the federal police were deployed, but no second body was found. The Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor also confirms this.

Due to the accident, the Kraainem exit towards the Woluwedal ​​was closed for hours.
