66 “new” contaminations in the last 24 hours? Good news ? Not really…

Last week, the institute of public health announced that it would no longer publish figures on Sunday and Monday.

However, the number of positive tests continues to be updated in the “data” section of the site, which has enabled the Belga agency and the media to “deduce” the number of new cases registered in 24 hours on Sunday and Monday.

According to the Epistat site, the figures would have climbed 86, then 66 cases, to arrive this Monday at a total of 61,361 cases recorded in Belgium since the start of the epidemic. Good news, some commented, since the average of new cases was above 90 recently.

However, these figures should be taken with great caution: as the epidemiologist of Sciensano Brecht De Vleeschauwer told us, the data available on Epistat were compiled on Sunday June 28, and the last diagnosed cases reported date from Saturday June 27.
