A total of 1,271,870 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine are planned, which could vaccinate 635,935 people. This was the largest planned number of people to be vaccinated with a particular vaccine, until Latvia applied for additional supplies of Pfizer vaccines.
Initial reservations of Pfizer vaccines predicted that a total of 297,620 people would be vaccinated with the vaccine in Latvia, but this number could reach 695,360 people after receiving another 795,480 doses.
By comparison, 273,459 people could be vaccinated with both the initial and the additional doses of Moderna that were applied for.
February 7, Latvia received the first AstraZeneca vaccines. Intended with them doctors and pharmacists will be vaccinated first, who have not received the vaccine so far, but then – clients and employees of social care centers, whose vaccination was started on Wednesday, February 10.
Covid-19 vaccines will be paid for from the state budget. Ministry of Health The strategy envisages that vaccination in Latvia will take place gradually. Medical staff will be vaccinated first, followed by social care center clients and staff, followed by other people at risk.
