The musician’s real name is Robert Nesta Marley. He was born in the small village of Nine Miles in the province of St. Anne, Jamaica, on February 6, 1945. In 1963 he formed the group “The Teenagers”, which was renamed “The Wailing Rudeboys”, “The Wailing Wailers” and eventually ” The Wailers’. The group gained huge popularity in Jamaica in the period 1964-1973.
The first album released internationally in 1974, “Catch a Fire”, brought the group worldwide popularity. A number of successful albums and songs followed, including “No Woman, No Cry”, “Get Up, Stand Up”, “I Shot The Sheriff”, “One Love” and others.
Bob Marley died on May 11, 1981 at Cedars Lebanon Hospital, Miami, Florida of complications from skin cancer he developed in 1977.
