Authorities confirm that this was suicide at a crossing.
A drama took place this Thursday at the end of the day on a level crossing in Pont-à-Celles (Hainaut). A woman was hit by a train. She died instantly.
This Thursday, around 5:20 p.m., police in the Brunau area were informed of the tragedy. A 65-year-old woman from the locality was fatally broke while crossing a level crossing near Place Communale in Pont-à-Celles. According to the first elements available to the police, the pedestrian crossed by a determined step.
Pascal Tavier, bourgmestre of Pont-à-Celles, confirms that this is indeed suicide. An investigation has been opened and will be resumed by the railway police.
No malfunction
On the Infrabel side, the first arrangements have been put in place. Rail traffic was interrupted following the accident. “He will probably remain disturbed for the evening”, says Arnaud Reymann, Infrabel spokesperson. According to the first elements available to the manager of the rail network, the level crossing did not present any malfunction.
