NEW YORK – A 33-year-old Bronx man now faces a murder charge in the case of a 65-year-old man who allegedly broke the fire escape of the building where the two lived during a fight over a female relative, authorities say .
The victim, Kevin Madison, was found unconscious on the sidewalk in front of the four-story apartment building on Cruger Avenue in Allerton, which he called home on a Saturday morning in early September. New York Police said on Thursday that Madison died Nov. 24 of injuries sustained in what they determined appeared to be a fire escape takeoff.
It’s unclear how far Madison fell, but suspect Kymasa Holmes, linked to the same address, was arrested in the case about two months after it occurred. The charges have now been changed to homicide and also include assault, threat and criminal possession of a weapon.
According to police, Holmes intermittently entered his girlfriend’s apartment early on Sept. 3 and found Madison, who the NYPD describes as a member of his family, sleeping there. He supposedly got upset about it and started arguing with Madison. The fight turned physical and Madison was thrown down the fire escape, authorities say.
Information about a possible lawyer for Holmes was not immediately available.
Police say their investigations are ongoing. Madison’s relationship with the woman was unclear early Thursday morning.
