64-Year-Old Man Arrested for Million-Euro Fraud with Fake Company and Weapons Violations

On Wednesday, the police arrested a 64-year-old man in Seeheim-Jugenheim who lived in Mahlberg. He is accused of fraud worth millions – with a fake company.

Civilian investigators from the South Hesse police headquarters had picked up the man, who had been wanted for a long time. The Freiburg im Breisgau regional court issued an arrest warrant against him in August on suspicion of fraud and violation of the weapons law.

Fraud of at least 1.2 million euros

The suspect is said to have been involved in setting up a fake company in Hong Kong in 2012 in order to use it for investment fraud. In the years that followed, wealthy customers are said to have been tricked into making supposedly lucrative investments. They were promised attractive monthly returns. However, the letterbox company never carried out any actual business activity. The damage of at least 1.2 million euros caused by the investment fraud was used for private expenses.

Firearms were found at his address

During a search of the 64-year-old in 2020 at his then address in Mahlberg, police forces also seized several live firearms that could be assigned to the person they were looking for. Although the arrested man consistently concealed his whereabouts, investigators from the Offenburg criminal police received information a few weeks ago that he was supposed to be in the Darmstadt area. On Wednesday around 4:40 p.m. he was arrested without resistance after an observation. The 64-year-old is now in prison.
