62 Percent are afraid of permanently high costs

Electricity prices have risen significantly in recent months. This is a huge burden for consumers. A survey now shows that many are afraid of continuing high costs.

According to a new survey, the vast majority of consumers in Germany fear financial burdens due to high energy prices. According to this, 62 percent are worried that the energy price crisis will burden them in the future, as the survey by the Kantar Institute on behalf of the Federal Consumer Association (vzbv) shows, which is available to the German Press Agency in Berlin.

36 Percent fear no personal burdens. The question of whether the government should temporarily suspend possible electricity or gas bans for insolvent customers was answered in the affirmative by 71 percent.

Primary care providers have raised prices

Some electricity and gas utilities in 14 of the most populous cities in Germany have recently raised their prices for new customers sharply, according to vzbv. For electricity, the basic utilities had introduced a separate new customer tariff in five of the cities examined – for example in Cologne, Frankfurt / Main, Leipzig, Dortmund and Dresden. For consumers, the annual additional costs, depending on electricity consumption, could be around 1,654 euros compared to existing customers.

The Federal Consumer Association called for measures that quickly relieve people’s wallets – for example, a quickly introduced climate money, electricity price reductions for private households and relief for tenants at the CO2 price.
