6,163 cases of Chikungunya in Abéché according to the Minister of Public Health

The Minister of Public Health made a press briefing on the epidemiological situation of Chikungunya disease in Abéché and Adré. This disease, declared a few days ago, has claimed several lives.

First diagnosed on August 14 in a 62-year-old patient, Chikungunya continues to spread in the area. After deploying a team of experts and infectious disease specialists in the field for analyzes and findings, the results obtained are identical to those of the samples analyzed in Cameroon. What shows that the Chikungunya disease does indeed exist in Chad, informs the Minister of Health, Dr Abdoulaye Saber Fadoul. In less than a month, more than 6,000 have been affected by this disease.

According to Abdoulaye Saber Fadoul, his department “ The ministry did not want to make an official statement on the Chikungunya epidemic which is living in Abéché for the simple reason that in accordance with international health regulations, the results obtained by our laboratories had to be confirmed by quality control by an excellent laboratory».

The Ministry of Public Health and its partners call on the population to be more vigilant. The same applies to measures such as wearing clothes that cover the whole body and those that can prevent mosquito bites.

It should be noted that Chikungunya is a disease that is transmitted by the bite of two types of female mosquitoes. These are aedes Aegypti and aedes albopictus.
