Helmut Rahn knows what it feels like to go down in history. His winning goal in the 1954 World Cup final, which completed the Miracle of Bern and gave Germany the first of what are now four world championship titles, is unforgettable.
Even today, every German football fan knows the legendary phrases of radio reporter Herbert Zimmermann: “Rahn should shoot from the background. Rahn shoots – goal!”
