The 61-year-old Kovitidi was previously a member of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea of Ukraine.
According to the statement of the Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office, after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Kovitidi repeatedly participated in the propaganda media programs of the aggressor state, where he expressed support for the illegal actions of the occupiers, calling the war started by Russia in Ukraine “to save the population from fascist ideology”.
Also, a criminal case for treason has been initiated against Kovitidi in Ukraine, which is currently being considered in court. If convicted of the charge, Kovitidi faces up to 15 years in prison.
