61 thousand lightning strikes in 2 hours in India: 12 dead

Thunderstorms hit the Indian state of Odisha.

61 thousand lightning bolts fell in 2 hours with heavy rains in the capital of the state, Bhubaneswar. At least 12 people lost their lives due to lightning strikes, while dozens were injured. 8 cattle also perished due to lightning strike.

The Indian Meteorological Service (IMD) has warned citizens against lightning strikes, stating that thunderstorms will continue until Thursday.

IMD issued an orange alert in 7 regions due to heavy rains, and a yellow alert in other regions.

It was stated that 400 thousand rupees would be given to the families of 12 people who lost their lives due to lightning.

On the other hand, more than 5,300 lightning strikes struck Odisha yesterday.

Lightning strikes frequently in these months when monsoon rains are effective in the eastern parts of India.

It is stated that 61 thousand lightning strikes that fell today have not been recorded before.
