61 police officers were injured in a demonstration in western France. 22 of them were seriously injured, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin tweeted. Thirty demonstrators were also injured.
Several thousand demonstrators demonstrated in the town of Sainte-Soline against the construction of a huge water tank for agriculture. Hundreds of masked militants participated in the protest. The protest ended in a battle with the security forces, who were hit with Molotov cocktails, among other things.
According to Darmanin, this shows that this was not a peaceful demonstration, but “a very violent demonstration”. Six people were arrested.
Saint-Soline is the second of a total of 16 reservoirs built by a group of 400 farmers for agricultural irrigation in the Deux-Sèvres region.
