Given the increase in covid cases in the country, government and municipal authorities recommend that the population receive the annual dose of the vaccine against this disease. The Minister of Health and Sports, María Renée Castro, said that immunization is the first tool in the fight against coronavirus.

The mayor of La Paz, Iván Arias, asked the population of La Paz to resume biosafety measures and get vaccinated against covid if they have not completed the schedules. He reiterated that immunization prevents possible deaths due to the virus.

“That a person dies from covid today doesn’t seem like it to me, because there are a lot of vaccines, they even spoil. So, it cannot be that people continue dying, I accept it when we started the pandemic because there were no (vaccines), it was not known, it was desperate. The most that we had managed to identify as a savior was plasma,” indicated the mayor.

According to official data, in the last epidemiological week number 50, an increase in cases of 61% was recorded and the most affected department is Cochabamba. Given this situation, the Minister of Health recalled that another of the key measures to avoid complications due to covid is vaccination.

According to Minister Castro, the vaccine is safe and highly effective, so it is recommended that the population receive its annual booster against the coronavirus. She indicated that doses are available for children and adults.

“We have a significant amount of vaccines that have already arrived in our country in recent weeks and have been distributed. We have started with vaccination in all departments and we must promote this tool to fight against SARS-COV2 that causes Covid-19,” said Minister Castro, according to a report from that State portfolio.

To receive the doses, the population must go to the nearest medical centers. The pediatric vaccine is applied to girls and boys from 5 to 11 years of age. Those over 12 years of age who have already received a dose can access the annual booster 12 months after the last application.

This modality also applies to risk groups: people over 60 years of age or with an underlying illness, as well as healthy people and pregnant people. Immunocompromised people, who have a weakened immune system, receive three doses: the first upon contact (when they go to the health center); the second, three weeks after the first dose (21 days); and the third dose, six months after the second application.

According to the Minister of Health, the use of a mask is another of the key measures to avoid contagion of covid, a virus that will continue to circulate in the country and infections will increase from November to February. “It is a normal process,” Castro said and explained that this situation should not cause alarm, but it is important to comply with protective measures.
