He was arrested by the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate last Thursday (7/3) a 60-year-old Greek against whom a case file was filed for violation of the legislation on intellectual property and on the protection of subscription services on a continuous basis.
There had been a previous complaint according to which an unknown person was coming in illegal live broadcasting of football matches and movie theaterswithout a relevant license, while advertising his services on the internet for a monetary fee in the form of a subscription.
All of the above was brought to the attention of the Athens District Attorney’s Office and a preliminary examination was ordered.
A methodical and thorough investigation followed and after an analysis of the resulting digital data, the 60-year-old’s involvement in the case was determined. A search of the 60-year-old’s home in Attica, in the presence of a judicial officer, revealed the use of unauthorized equipment and the rebroadcasting of the content of two subscription companies without the legal subscription and permission.
Specifically, the following were found and seized:
- 10 IPTV Android Boxes, two of which were modified to communicate with illegal platforms – servers for rebroadcasting TV channels
- 8 USBs, on which software for illegal configuration of IPTV Boxes was installed
- mobile phone, laptop and three hard drives
The arrested person was taken to the competent prosecuting authority and referred to an Investigator, while the seized digital evidence will be sent to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for laboratory examination.
