Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – An island nation in the Indian Ocean, the Seychelles are known as the best region for vaccination programs. Unfortunately there were also positive cases of Covid-19 in a number of people who had been fully vaccinated.
The Seychelles are the country with the most successful launch of a vaccination program so far. The region beats any country including big ones like Israel and Britain.
The local Health Ministry said more than a third of people who tested positive for Covid-19 had been fully vaccinated. This is the data for one week until May 8, 2021 yesterday.
Most of the people who are vaccinated receive the Sinopharm China and AstraZeneca vaccines or under the name Covishield locally. Seychelles has a population of over 97,000 people reporting only under 8,200 cases and 28 deaths during the pandemic hit.
However, disaster came when last Monday, the Ministry of Health reported a significant increase in the number of cases. On April 30th there were 120 new cases and then a week later on May 7th and 8th there were 300 cases.
Of these, 63% had not been vaccinated or had received a single injection at Sinopharm or Covieshied. While the rest are people who have received full injection.
The Ministry’s report states that 80% of the patients treated are in the community who have not been vaccinated and people with a tendency to have congenital diseases. Including cases of critical and severe level requiring intensive care are people who have not been vaccinated.
So far no person with the full vaccine and positive for Covid-19 has died, quoted from CNBC International, Friday (14/5/2021).
So far in the vaccination program 57% are Sinopharm and Covishield recipients 43%. However, there is no information on which vaccine recipient has tested positive for Covid-19.
After May 7-8 with 317 and 314 cases showing horizontal curves, respectively. “The transmission rate remains high and is a concern,” said the Health Ministry.
Experts are quite worried about this incident. Because 60% of the total population of Seychelles has been fully vaccinated.
