Eight apartments have been burnt out in total and around 60 residents have been evacuated after a fire in a block of flats in Sola municipality.

Published:

Saturday night at 20.30, the police reported a fire in a block of flats on Tjelta in Sola municipality, west of Sandnes in Rogaland.

The fire quickly spread to full ignition in four apartments, fire chief Nils-Erik Haagenrud tells VG.

All emergency services were on site, and the smoke divers had a big job searching the block for people, says duty officer in the fire service, Morten Vetrhus to VG.

– There is a large smoke diving effort in place, with around 25 men, Vetrhus told VG around 9 pm, when the fire service did not yet have control of the fire.

EXTINGUISHING: After a while, the fire brigade got control of the fire.

Evacuated neighboring buildings

The block that caught fire has at least 20 apartments, the fire service states, and the strong smoke development in the apartment block also had consequences for other homes in the vicinity.

– There is smoke going south, and buildings nearby are also being evacuated, duty manager Vetrhus told VG at 21 on Saturday night.

At 22.20, Stavanger Aftenblad announced that all the apartments have been searched and that everyone should be out.

– We feel we have control of the fire now. All the apartments have been searched, except for the one where the fire started, but we do not think there is anyone there, says fire chief Nils-Erik Haagenrud to VG at 22.25.

8 of a total of 20 apartments were completely burned out and damaged after the fire.

The municipality has taken care of the evacuated residents, and about 60 people have been taken to a hotel.
