Earth is one of the planets in solar system. Do you know what it is solar system? In terms, solar system is a system consisting of the sun and everything that is bound to it by gravity. Well, this system consists of planets, satellites, dwarf planets, meteoroids, planetoids or asteroids, comets.
From this well-arranged system in the universe, some experts began to think about how solar system we can be formed. Here are some theories put forward by experts.

6 Theories of the Formation of the Solar System
- Vortex Model (Rene Descartes –1642)
The modern cosmogony hypothesis theory was first introduced by the French philosopher and mathematician Rene Descartes in 1642. In this theory, he stated that solar system comes from a cloud of particles that rotates like a whirlpool in an orbit close to a circle. The forerunner of the sun is at the center and the prospective planet is in the main vortex (the disc of the material that forms it), while the satellite is in an additional vortex around the vortex of the prospective planet.
- Nebula Theory or Fog Theory (Immanuel Kant –1755 and Piere Simon de Laplace –1796)
Immanuel Kant was a philosopher who also focused on studying various sciences, such as geology, astronomy, and physics. In 1755, he wrote a note entitled “The Universal Natural History and Theories of the Heavens“which explains the origin solar system. In the note, solar system formed from fog and gas that is in space rotates slowly and forms a flat disk with several mass nuclei. The core mass in the center has a high temperature and glows and forms the sun. the core of the mass at the periphery cools and slowly turns into a planet orbiting the sun.
This theory is also supported by a French astronomer named Pierre Simon De Laplace. In his book entitled “Exposition of a World System“, he stated that solar system we come from a gas mist that rotates quickly and has a very high temperature. The spinning speed of this gas mist, finally threw various gas balls of matter around him. Over time, these solid balls turned into planets and the main source of the hot balls became the center of the orbit of the planets we know as the sun.

The difference between Kant’s thinking and Laplace’s rotational speed of fog. Kant suggests solar system formed due to slow rotation, while Laplace thought that the speed of fog was very fast.
