Police have arrested six people involved in the nighttime celebration riot Christmas in 7 Ulu area, Palembang city, South Sumatra. Most of the rioters were teenagers.
According to Antara, on Sunday (12/25/2022) the six perpetrators were all male, residing in Seberang Ulu 1 Palembang district. The perpetrator was arrested by the personnel of Sub-Directorate III Jatanras Ditreskrimum Polda South Sumatra on Sunday morning at around 01.30 WIB.
The six teenagers carried sharp weapons during the action. Three sickle-shaped sharp weapon blades and a sambu rifle were seized from the hands of the six perpetrators.
“There were no fatalities in the riots among the residents whose motives are still being investigated,” South Sumatra Regional Police Criminal Investigation Directorate Kombes Pol M Anwar Reksowidjojo told reporters.
However, he ensured that the six perpetrators and evidence were now safe at the Palembang Polrestabes after previously being at the South Sumatra Police Headquarters for further investigation.
South Sumatra Regional Police carried out Enhanced Routine Activities (KRYD) patrols to ensure Christmas and New Year 2023 for 24 hours until January 2, 2023.
A total of 2,058 police officers have been deployed in the operation to anticipate and follow up on any disturbances to security and order in the local community.
The target of the operation includes places of worship, crowded centers such as malls, markets, town halls, up to border areas classified as quiet and high potential for 3C street crimes (curat, curas and theft).
