6 outdoor events to do in May

In May, “Celebrate what you like”: with the return of fine weather, here is a selection, necessarily subjective, of outdoor activities to do this month in Wallonia and Brussels.

The Iris Festival, 7 and 8 May (Brussels)

As every year at the beginning of May, it’s time for the Fête de l’Iris: the anniversary of the Brussels-Capital Region, which will blow out its 33rd candle this year. The opportunity to transform the city into a giant festival, with concerts and dozens of free events, from the Royal Park to the Mont des Arts.

On Saturday, it’s electro night on the Place des Palais from 7 p.m. Before, multiple activities on the occasion of Europe Day and the Centenary of Garden Cities.

On Sunday, the Parc de Bruxelles will host different thematic villages and fun stands.

See you on 7 and 8 May at Parc de Bruxelles and the surrounding area. Complete program ici.

Love in verse, May 7 (Walhain)

After two years in virtual, Love in verse returns to its quarters at the Château de Walhain. An “eco-citizen and acoustic” festival, l’Amour en vers is betting that we can have fun differently, while respecting the environment. Suddenly, the festival drops the electricity.

Lighting with lanterns, acoustic music, dry toilets, recycling reigns, local drinks… the infrastructure is intended to be light, leaving no trace of its passage. On the program: folk duo, French song, pop and acoustic rap, initiation to the circus, survival and fireworks workshop, Jam session at nightfall…

Free admission. Participation in the hat to remunerate the artists. Love in verse, Walhain castle (Brabant-Wallon), May 7.

Zinneke Parade, May 14 (Brussels)

It’s a folkloric and surrealist procession – from Brussels – that wanders once every two years through the streets of the capital. The principle of the Zinneke Parade is to bring together residents, associations and schools from different Brussels neighborhoods around a common project. Each “committee” then prepares its costumes and sets for the grand parade. This 12th edition has the theme “Trompe l’oeil”.

The Zinneke Parade, Bourse district in Brussels, on May 14, from 3 p.m.

Belgian Pride, May 21 (Brussels)

Another parade, a rainbow this time, will color the streets of the capital on May 21. A great moment of gathering as well as social and political demands, Pride is a demonstration for the rights of LGBTQI+ people, with the organization of numerous activities around this theme. But it is also a moment of gathering and conviviality.

Composed of more than 80 delegations, the Belgian Pride will begin with speeches on the main stage of the Pride Village, at Mont des Arts. Then the Rainbow Flag will be thrown through the crowd to kick off the parade. The complete program to discover ici.

The Maitrank Festival, 21 and 22 May (Arlon)

If you have never tasted it, this is an opportunity to discover Maitrank, this flavored wine made from sweet woodruff. Every fourth weekend of May, the people of Arlon gather in the streets of the city center to celebrate this beverage. Processions, concerts and fireworks are on the program.

BAD Festival, from May 27 (Charleroi)

Food lovers take note: you will have to take the direction of Lodelinsart, in Charleroi, from May 27. The BAD Festival is relocating there until July 17, in order to offer one of the largest “food courts” in Wallonia. 2500 m2 dedicated to food for an open-air mega-restaurant, where you can also stroll and/or enjoy a small cocktail in a deckchair. Yes, summer is coming!

See you from May 27 to July 17 at 26 rue Chausteur, Charleroi. Complete program ici.
