The Ministry of Labor and Social Security issued a statement this Wednesday where it made a status of the workers in total and partial unemployment insurance. The text indicates that the number of workers in unemployment insurance fell 1.7% in March compared to February. That equates to 6 out of 10 workers being reinstated to their respective jobs.
“Although in the month of December there was a brake in the reduction of the number of workers in unemployment insurance, in February and March this downward trend is resumed, although at a slower pace,” the communication indicates.
In March there were 72,607 workers on unemployment insurance, 1,263 fewer workers than in February when there were 73,870.
Partial unemployment insurance suffered a slight increase, but the MTSS indicates that it remains “very stable.” In February there were 21,873 partially insured workers, while in March there were 22,331 (458 more).
“If the number of workers in March making use of total unemployment insurance and partial unemployment insurance is compared, the data shows that there were 50,276 people making use of the first and 22,331 of the second (69% and 31% respectively)” , says the statement.
According to the MTSS, the pre-pandemic gap continues to narrow. “If March 2021 is compared with the months of January and February 2020, prior to the pandemic, the difference in people using unemployment insurance is only three thousand,” he points out.
The portfolio details that in March this year 15,314 workers were released from unemployment insurance. Of this total, 61% were returned to work (6 out of 10) and the remaining 39% were fired. The MTSS points out that, in turn, of the 14,051 workers who entered unemployment insurance in March 2021, the smallest part did so due to dismissal (27.9%) and the majority due to reduction or suspension 72.1% .
