Those who visit the city that never sleeps want to see everything as possible. You will notice so many Tourist trap in. These 10 tips will help you avoid the classic mistakes that new York beginners can make:

1. It doesn’t always have to be Manhattan
–

The skyline of is known from films and series Manhattan (see picture above). New York City has now almost become a synonym for the famous district, but the city actually consists of other parts that are worth seeing. Even in downtown Brooklyn stylish hotels await – often at a significantly lower price than their counterparts in Manhattan. The subway takes you to the city center in around 20 minutes.

2. Taxis are not the only mode of transport

The yellow taxis are a landmark of New York – they are not missing in any film set in the Big Apple. Many New Yorkers also use the “yellow cabs” to get from A to B. The taxis are comfortable, but you almost always end up in a traffic jam. You can walk far within Manhattan, otherwise it is worth taking the subway. You can go almost anywhere with it. Sporty types can explore the city with Citi bikes. This is New York’s bike sharing program.

3. Forget the cronut

It wasn’t too long ago that all the media around the world reported a new pastry innovation New York, the Cronut. This mixture of croissant and donut, a kind of donut made from puff pastry, ensures that there are large queues in front of the daily bakery of Dominique Ansel make up. Due to the lack of a Cronut, black market prices of up to $ 80 were sometimes charged for a Cronut. However, the coveted pastries are nowhere near as good as demand suggests. Many bakeries offer much better ones confectionery at, like the Magnolia Bakerythat are available in different locations.

4. A bus tour doesn’t show everything

Hop-on-hop-off buses are now available in almost every major city. Also in New York There are sellers waiting in many corners to offer tourists tickets for the bus tours. However, you only see a fraction of the city on such a tour. You get a much better impression if you go biking or walking Tours bay. Together with a guide, you can explore the Big Apple either on foot or by bike – often at a cheaper price than the bus tours.

5. Shopping: Broadway versus Lower East Side

Shopping on Broadway offers little more than other cities. Here you can find the same brands and fashion chains as in many other large cities American. Many independent labels and vintage shops are waiting on the Lower East Side. Trendy shops can be found on Orchard Street, for example.

6. Times Square only if need be

The Times Square is probably one of the most famous addresses in the world and is a must for every visitor to New York. However, this is also immediately noticeable – you are in the middle of a huge cluster of tourists. Only when you’re on your way to a Broadway show should you Times Square also give a little time. The High Line is better for leisurely walks. This elevated park attracts thousands of visitors every day, but there is more to see than on Times Square and instead of tons of blinking billboards, nature awaits in the city.
