The Medan Police detained six suspected members of the Islamic Community Forum (WENT) related to the disbandment commotion Braided horse Sei Sikambing B Village, Medan Sunggal Subdistrict, Medan City, North Sumatra.
“Yesterday we arrested six people and named suspects. Currently, the six people have been detained,” said Head of Medan Police, Kombes Pol Riko Sunarko, Saturday (10/4).
Riko said the police had also arrested four other members of the Medan FUI. The four people are currently undergoing examinations. Additionally, one other FUI member is in hot pursuit.
“So we have secured 10 people, we have named six suspects and have been detained, four more are in the investigation process and one more person we are looking for to secure,” said Riko.
According to Riko, from the confession of one of the suspects with the initials S who is also the head of the local environment, the dissolution was his own initiative. S had asked 12 of his friends to disperse the Jaran Kepang show.
“From S’s admission that the disbandment was on his initiative. Initially S together with other FUI members had just returned home to attend an invitation to the organization in Deliserdang. After the activity, S invited 12 of his friends from his organization to disband Jaran Kepang,” he explained.
Then, continued Riko, on the way 2 of S’s colleagues came down because they were giving a religious lecture somewhere.
“The rest used three 4-wheeled vehicles and came to the scene, then parked approximately 20 meters from the scene and there was light humiliation and persecution by the group,” he said.
It is known, the video of a group of members of the Medan Special Forces FUI dissolving the braid on Friday (2/4) which then went viral on social media.
The residents did not accept that the event was dismissed. Even from the video circulating, FUI members spat on one of the women who did not accept the dissolution, causing a riot between residents and members of the Medan FUI at that location.
“The art and cultural performance of jaran braids was considered shirk and then disbanded by FUI Medan. A few moments later one of the members of the mass organization came forward and spat on the woman who was arguing. A number of residents were emotional and riots occurred,” wrote the video uploader.
On the other hand, the Chairperson of the Medan City FUI, Nursarianto denied the dissolution of the braid network. He blamed the local Head of the Environment (Kepling) who was also the Medan FUI Commander who dismissed the event.
When he saw the show, said Nursarianto, Kepling, who was wearing the FUI Medan shirt, spontaneously dismissed it. However, the reason for the disbandment was because there were no permits and violated the crowd during the Covid-19 pandemic.
