According to reports from NHK and other Japanese media and the China Earthquake Network, at around 9:14 on August 11 local time (around 8:14 Beijing time), a magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred in the waters near Hokkaido.
The focal depth was 50 kilometers, and the epicenter was located at 41.20 degrees north latitude and 142.85 degrees east longitude. The tremor was clearly felt in Aomori and Iwate prefectures. A camera on the roof of the NHK Broadcasting Bureau in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture captured the shaking.
There are no large and medium-sized cities within 300 kilometers of the epicenter, and the average altitude within 5 kilometers of the epicenter is about -1837 meters.
NHK stated that the earthquake will not trigger a tsunami, and Shinkansen such as Tohoku and Hokuriku will operate as usual.
