BAD KREUZNACH. The city of Bad Kreuznach receives a subsidy of around 516,000 euros from the DigitalPakt School funding program, which is implemented in the state via the Investment and Structure Bank Rhineland-Palatinate (ISB). Minister of Education Dr. Stefanie Hubig, together with Ulrich Dexheimer, spokesman of the board of the ISB, handed over the funding notice to the head of the school, Markus Schlosser. With the funding, important digitization measures can be implemented at a total of six primary schools.

“Rhineland-Palatinate has always played a pioneering role in digital education,” emphasized Minister of Education Hubig when the funding decision was handed over. “The pandemic has presented us with challenges that we could never have foreseen. We had to be fast and we were. Our motto is: As quickly as possible, as much as possible – without losing sight of what is educationally meaningful and sustainable. We quickly approved the two equipment programs for teacher and student terminals, and things are also progressing well with the DigitalPakt School. In addition to the federal government, the state also continues to invest reliably and regularly in digital education. The funds available in the 2022 state budget have increased to more than 22 million euros.”

Upgrading with digital technology is a measure that is urgently needed in elementary schools and is an important step towards the future. “I would like to thank the federal and state governments for the generous funding as part of the ‘DigitalPakt Schule’ program, which enables modern teaching with digital media at our primary schools. It is to be hoped that our media development plan will also be permanently co-financed by the federal and state governments. The local authorities must not be left to their own devices in this regard,” explained Schuler Schlosser.

The applications, which 400 providers can submit for 1,600 schools in Rhineland-Palatinate, are processed by the ISB. “Media literacy is becoming increasingly important in the information age. We are very pleased that we can make a contribution to improving the media education offerings at schools in Rhineland-Palatinate,” says ISB board spokesman Dexheimer. The subsidies from federal funds can be used to finance measures both in school buildings and on school grounds.

A total of around 240 million euros in federal funds are available for Rhineland-Palatinate, which are to be increased with the ten percent own share of the school authorities. The funded digitization measures include, for example, cabling, wireless Internet and the purchase of digital display and work equipment.
