NEW YORK – Half a dozen people were taken to hospital, two of them with serious injuries, after the partial collapse of a building under construction on Long Island on Thursday, authorities say.
Suffolk County Police announced a call to the emergency health services about the Middle Country Road collapse in the St. James section of Smithtown at around 1:30 pm.
The police only described the building as “under construction”.
It was also unclear whether all those injured were construction workers.
Route 25 was closed for a while, but was later reopened.
Police say their investigation is ongoing.
