Jakarta –
There are six Indonesian astronomers whose names are immortalized on asteroids. Can anyone guess?
Previously, the naming of asteroids began when the asteroid was first observed on two consecutive nights by one observer. The results are then sent to the Minor Planet Center of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), which assigns a provisional designation. Usually produces a serial number, for example KD 1992.
According to the European Space Agency, asteroids with permanent numbers will eventually be given names. The astronomer who first provided sufficient observations to calculate the orbit precisely had the privilege of choosing the name.
These six astronomers had their names immortalized as a form of IAU appreciation for the Bosscha Observatory which has an important role in the history of the development of astronomy in the southern sky.

Quoting from the West Java Education Department’s Instagram post @disdikajabar and the Bosscha Observatory page of the Bandung Institute of Technology, here are the Indonesian astronomers whose names have been immortalized as asteroids.
