6 Horror Facts Lebanon Suffered by Economic Crisis Like Hell

The situation of the economic crisis in Lebanon getting worse to make this country called ‘hell’ by its own citizens. Hyperinflation and scarcity of basic necessities have made the situation in Lebanon even more unbearable for its citizens.

As reported by the Associated Press, Friday (9/7/2021), around 6 million Lebanese people are facing a new reality where their daily lives are marked by scarcity and shortage of various basic commodities including medicine, fuel and spare parts for cars. Lebanon is known to be highly dependent on imports.

The Corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic is further complicating the situation, with hospitals in Lebanon which used to be one of the best in the region, had to join the fight. The economic and financial crisis is known to mean that electricity lasts only a few hours each day, fueling shortages of diesel fuel needed for generators and leading to shortages of medical supplies and medicine.

Lebanon Asks for World’s Help

Lebanon’s interim prime minister, Hassan Diab, warned that his country was moving towards a ‘social explosion’. He also asked for help from the international community to save Lebanon.

As reported by Al Jazeera, Friday (9/7/2021), the World Bank has called the crisis that hit Lebanon as one of the worst depressions in modern history. The country’s currency has lost more than 90 percent of its value and more than half of the population is plunged into poverty.

“Lebanon is only days away from the social boom. Lebanon is facing this dark fate alone,” Diab said in his speech during a meeting with ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions of various countries in Beirut.

In his speech, Diab encouraged friendly countries to lend a helping hand despite the absence of a new government in Lebanon. He stated that linking aid to reform of a deeply corrupt system had become a ‘threat to the lives of Lebanese citizens’ and to the stability of the country.

“I appeal through you to Kings, Princes, Presidents and leaders of friendly countries, and I call on the United Nations and all international institutions, the international community and global public opinion to help save Lebanese citizens from death and prevent Lebanese deaths. , ” he said in front of foreign diplomats.

Rare Gasoline to Power Out

The power cut has impacted internet connections in many cities, and bakeries are in danger of closing due to fuel shortages. Even though bread is one of the staple foods for residents Lebanon.

Some 6 million Lebanese now spend hours in long lines at gas stations to buy fuel. They are struggling with power cuts of up to 22 hours a day and severe medical shortages.

According to the Associated Press, the political situation in Lebanon, which is marked by civil war between political classes, has accumulated in debt buildup and has done little to encourage local industry, forcing the country to rely almost entirely on imports.
