Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Diabetes is caused by high blood sugar levels due to problems with insulin production, its action, or both. This disease can cause serious complications such as blindness, kidney damage, cardiovascular disease and can lead to limb amputation and premature death.
Here are some tips from dietician Rawan Nakho, of Right Bite, a company specializing in healthy meal plans and nutrition advice in Dubai.
- Eat fresh foods instead of processed foods.
- Choose whole grains instead of refined carbohydrates, such as white bread, rice and pasta.
- Choose berries, nuts, and seeds as healthy snacks instead of crackers and candy.
- Adopt healthy cooking methods such as grilling, steaming, and boiling.
- Move every day for 30 minutes.
- Drink two liters of water a day.
