A 2014 study in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology showed that about 20 percent of people who shaved their pubic hair using any method including razors, trimming, or waxing experienced severe itching. Scratching will make the irritation worse.

2. Ingrown hair
Another possible consequence of shaving or waxing is the appearance of hair growing into the skin. Apart from itching, inflammation due to ingrown hairs can also make the area painful.
If you have ingrown pubic hair and it itches, it’s best not to scratch it as it can cause infection and pain.
Instead, dampen a clean washcloth in warm water and apply it as a compress to the ingrown hair for 10-15 minutes. Applying a compress in circular motions can help exfoliate the area to lift the hair to the surface.
