Saunders will become the seventh British boxer to challenge Canelo Alvarez. The WBO Super Middle Class champion left-handed boxer tries to stifle Canelo’s cruelty. Saunders was determined not to fall victim to Canelo’s seven atrocities like his six compatriots.
Matthew Hatton
Ricky Hatton’s brother was the first to take on Canelo, then 20 years old and challenging the vacant WBC Light Middle Class crown. Hatton takes his distance and looks really good in the duel. He also felt the influence of Canelo’s power for years to come.
“Even though it was a painful experience, I still say to this day I still use two paracetamol a day now! It was fun overall and I’ll look back with great memories, ” Hatton told Box Nation in 2017.
Ryan Rhodes
In his counter-fight after defeating Hatton, Canelo crushed Rhodes in Mexico, winning in the 12th round. In 2017, asked by Sky Sports about Canelo’s weaknesses, Rhodes said: “ I couldn’t find him. Looks like he has obtained the complete package. ”

Asked about Canelo’s ability to hit, he said: “Nice chin. I hit him with a few hard knocks, not seeming to bother him. Canelo Alvarez has great head movement and very good reflexes. ”
“He’s not your typical aggressive Mexican, he doesn’t get hit a lot, and has great moves.”
Amir Khan |
It took another five years for an Englishman to take on Canelo, but in 2016, Amir Khan surprised everyone by stepping into the middle class.
And the 2004 Olympic silver medalist did so well to beat the Mexican boxer until he was brutally eliminated with a powerful overhand strike right in the sixth round.
