6 Atmospheric Layers and Their Functions: Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Ionosphere, Thermosphere, and Exosphere

TRIBUNNEWS.COM – Here are six kinds of layers of the atmosphere and their functions for life.

Quoted from National Geographic, the atmosphere is a layer of gas that surrounds planet earth.

Even water, steam and dust are also part of the earth’s atmosphere.

The atmosphere acts as a giant filter that keeps out most of the ultraviolet radiation while allowing the sun’s warm rays to enter the earth.

Earth’s atmosphere has a layered structure.

The boundaries between the layers of the atmosphere are not clearly defined, and change depending on latitude and seasonality.

From the ground surface towards the sky, these layers are the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere.

Another layer, called the ionosphere, extends from the mesosphere to the exosphere.

Beyond the exosphere is outer space.
