6. Alarm in New York → 19th century church on fire – Fireworld.at

NEW YORK (USA): On Saturday morning, December 5, 2020 (local time), a massive fire broke out in an empty building in New York City that spread to a 19th-century church and made both buildings uninhabitable.

The fire broke out around 5 a.m. in a building on the first floor of an empty building on East 7th Street in the East Village neighborhood, according to NBC New York, and then spread to the house of worship. The major fire ultimately led to six alarms. Four firefighters were injured during the operation.

The New York Fire Department reports: “Our units arrived in three minutes, so they were very quick. Upon arrival we had massive fire coming from the corner building on East 7th Street. We quickly triggered additional alarms in order to have more staff on site. The fire had spread to the church on 2nd Avenue and another building on 7th Street. We had all of our units on site promptly and were then able to contain the fire and avoid further spread. Four firefighters were slightly injured, ”said John Hodgens, FDNY deputy chief at the location of the 6-alarm fire at 48 East 7th Street in Manhattan.

More than 200 firefighters are said to have been on duty.
