“6.2 Magnitude Earthquake Recorded Off Southwest Coast of British Columbia”

On April 13 in the North Pacific, off the southwest coast of British Columbia, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale was recorded.

The epicenter was about 233 km southwest of Port McNeil, British Columbia. The earthquake occurred at a depth of about 8 km and is probably a moderate earthquake were felt in parts of western Vancouver Island.

There were no initial reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake; significant damage is unlikely. It could be several hours before authorities can fully assess the damage, especially in remote areas.

Moderate aftershocks are likely in the coming days.

The event did not lead to tsunami warnings.

Officials may temporarily shut down transportation infrastructure near the quake zone to check for damage.

Interruptions are possible of the power supply, especially near the epicenter of the earthquake.
