5G would begin to expand in Latin America during 2022

This has been estimated by the consulting firm Counterpoint Research. The key to its dissemination will be the production of cheaper devices. Share this news!

According to the consulting firm Counterpoint Research, the main problem for the take-off of 5G technology in Latin America is the lack of networks and equipment at competitive prices.

In the region, 80% of the market is made up of smartphones below USD 200. For the new technology to spread, it must appear in units below this price.

The international situation, in particular the global shortage of chips is an additional difficulty.

As is logical, distribution companies have no reason to market devices with a technology for which there are no prepared networks.

Projections

The consulting firm anticipates that by 2022 the outlook should change. According to his calculations, by 2025 some 85 million units could be sold with 5G. The countries that would lead the expansion would be Brazil, Mexico and Chile.

The projected growth is faster than that produced after the appearance of 4G, which in its third year reached 83 million phones in the region and about 200 million in the fourth.

For 5G, it is expected that in its third year, after entering Latin America, it will reach 565 million units.

In the sixth, one billion phones with 5G technology would be reached.

Globally, the market for 5G devices is currently 570 million.

Counterpoint Research has calculated that by 2024 the average price of a 5G device will be USD 371. But a greater variety of inexpensive models is also expected.
