Deutsche Telekom is continuously expanding its own 5G network. The group has now activated 18 additional antennas for the cities of Bremen and Hanover. Transmission rates of up to 1 Gbit / s on the particularly powerful 3.6 GHz frequency are achieved at each of the six locations.
Additional frequency band for more range
In addition to the powerful, but not very far-reaching 3.6 GHz frequency, Telekom relies on the 2.1 GHz frequency band, which offers a significantly higher range, but has to make a few compromises in terms of speed. 400 antennas have been active in the Hanover region since summer 2020 and around 300 antennas in Bremen using this frequency. These existing ones are now being supplemented with the new high-speed antennas.

5G for 55 million Germans
In total, Telekom has more than 45,000 5G-capable antennas in operation. 4,500 cities and municipalities in Germany are currently expected to benefit from 5G. According to Telekom, you can reach around 55 million people who can theoretically use 5G. That’s two thirds of the population.
In addition to Bremen and Hanover, Telekom’s 5G network is available in eleven other German cities: Bremen, Bonn, Darmstadt, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt a. M., Hamburg, Cologne, Leipzig, Munich and Nuremberg.
