5G is coming, even if the territories covered are still very limited. If you want to acquire a new smartphone, you may already be interested in 5G models.
With 5G, we are talking about ultra-high speed mobile internet, this technology offering transfer speeds up to 50 times faster than 4G. For telephoning, there is no difference, but for video telephony with a high resolution image, 5G becomes interesting.
Since November 2020, Bouygues Telecom, Free, Orange and SFR have started to deploy their 5G services. But, as can be seen on the website of the Electronic Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority (Arcep), 5G coverage is still embryonic. So at Orange, it only concerns about fifteen cities. Free has the most extensive network, but the operator uses a frequency shared with 4G (700 MHz band) and offers restricted 5G. To offer “real” 5G, operators must install new antennas (3.5 GHz band).
