58 people may have received too low a dose of the Pfizer vaccine in the Den Amer vaccination center in Diest in Flemish Brabant on Saturday 10 April. Primary care zone Demerland reports this on Monday. In consultation with the Flemish Agency for Care and Health, it has been decided that they will all receive a third injection, so that they are certainly sufficiently protected against the corona virus.

The responsible employees of the center have noticed the problem, explains Ivo Deckers, vice-president of the primary care zone. “There was not enough liquid in the syringes, so too low doses of the vaccine were administered. The trained nurses also said they noticed that the syringe provided too little resistance. ”

When the problem was further investigated, it turned out that it concerned 58 people. “We were able to clearly delineate the incident, from the opening time of the center to when it was established. This way we can be sure that the problem will be limited to 58 people. ”

These people have now been contacted and have made an appointment to come and collect a third injection in June. Using an extra syringe was important: the risk of underprotection is estimated by experts and Healthcare and Health to be higher than any harmful side effects.

It was not possible to take extra injections on the day of the incident. “Then doses would have to come from different bottles, that’s not allowed. Moreover, it was also difficult from an organizational point of view. Some people had already left home. ”

The necessary measures have been taken to prevent such incidents in the future, Deckers assures.
